When we first got Ducky it was so tiny that we had it swim in a paint tray. It could not even touch the buttom of it. Everyone says they should not swim until they are 5 weeks old, because they do not produce oil for their feathers yet. In the wild their mom takes care of it, but Ducky is an orphan. We decided to let it swim anyway. Temperature is above 80 degrees so we do not see a problem with getting cold. We did restrict it to swim only 5 minutes and then take the water away. Ducky did well but grew so fast that we had to upgrade to the next size. We always placed a stones outside and inside of it to assure that Ducky can get out. Ducks can drown, especially when they are young and can’t get uplift from their wings yet. Below you can Ducky in a 50 gal. stock tank. It cannot fly yet and can get out without stones.
